Thoughts on talents and the anointing...

I have seen so many individuals (within the Church) that don't seem to have a clue about the anointing of God, and how it isn't a talent. People sing, speak, and perform all types of services according to their own abilities and talents, yet most of this service is carnal, that is to say, it is simply of the flesh, or at best the human mind and will.

The anointing of God as demonstrated throughout scripture is the divine enduement, or charism, that enables an individual to perform a work, or service that God has called one to. It is not human, nor can it be produced by human effort. I should say that it is also evident from the scriptures that it can be lost. The word declares the "The gifts and callings of God are without repentance," and this is true, but this simply means that God will hold one accountable to walk in what He has called one to walk in.

The subject comes to my mind tonight after church, and the service caused me to think a lot about my efforts to learn guitar. I approach this (in my heart) with humility, and I only want to honor the Lord in ministering to Him in song, and music, but there are conflicts that arise from such. One is the fact that I question whether I will be anointed for such a task, and of course I have no desire to do such if God will not anoint me. I know I should not even question such, since I have asked, and certainly believe that He is always pleased when a person wants to please Him from the heart. I just don't want to learn something according to my intellect, and it be a hollow offering to God.

I am going to play now...
