Political Self Serving

My father asked me tonight if I would be voting the Democrat ticket this fall if the gas prices continued to climb, and I continued to drive a vehicle getting around 13 mpg? I laughed of course and summed up my stance in this fashion: I believe in accordance with the teaching of sacred scriptures that the individual that makes decisions based on how profitable they are to his own self, without consideration for anyone else, this man is the ultimate fool. I believe, without hesitation "The love of money is the root of all evil," and this of course can be understood to mean the love of profit for one's own self. I am astonished, not at the unbelieving mass of Americans that hold political views and allegiances based on their own profit, but at the millions of confessed Christians that do the same. The idea that I will support the party, or individual that will profit me the most, or do the most good "for me," this is sickening beyond my feeble comprehension. This country is overrun with self seeking individuals that barely put forth the effort to breathe, yet they rant about what has George Bush done 'for me?" It is always about "me" when it comes down to the person that truly knows nothing of the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ.

I of course told my father that I would be voting for the individuals who I believe are opposed to the ruthless slaughter of innocent blood in the wombs of American women that view the murder of the unborn as a convenience. I would also support those who oppose the militant homosexual efforts to degrade and desecrate the holy sacrament of marriage as it is given to us by the Church. I will not support those who openly express support for abortion and homosexual rights, because the scripture is perfectly clear in the condemnation of such. The idea that I can somehow separate my spiritual life, from my political views and support of one person, or the other is so foreign to what real Christianity is, but literally millions that confess the name of Christ do just this.

I of course care about how the bureaucrats run this country, and I don't think anyone in Washington really cares to much about the average person at all, but my political philosophy is one and the same with my belief in the word of God. I will always vote according to a code of morality, which I find in those little black words without leaven, and if the person that stands against what the Bible clearly calls sin gets in office, and my life isn't as good as it used to be, then perhaps I should learn to suffer with grace and dignity.
