A 2017 Review!]]>Thu, 21 Sep 2017 02:30:42 GMThttp://alaskahunts.net/alaska-hunts-blog/is-the-combo-still-possible-a-2017-reviewThe 2017 season saw major changes for us again, moving away from partnerships to simple working relationships we found ourselves with a lot fewer hunts this past season but some incredible benchmarks were set for us as an outfit.

As the season approached we only had three hunts this fall on the books and because of limited guide availability and the approach of our baby girl we had to cancel a late season grizz hunt and this left us with two combo hunts totaling right at 30 days straight of combination hunting!

I will save most of the details for an upcoming article but our first hunter was pursuing brown bear and caribou and took the caribou on day one of what had to be one of the worst stretches of miserable rain and socked in weather I can remember and eventually after a miss on one bear we lost a the first big game animal ever in my career, a really nice 8' plus brownie that took several rounds, left bone and blood trail behind as he plunged 500 - 700' down and alder choked slope, finally losing us with a diminishing blood trail as darkness fell on us in the middle of the tangled jungle. The bear had began moving sideways on the slope as the blood trail diminished and it was obvious the hits were not what we wanted.

The following hunt was a two one one hunt with me supervising and helping out as Mark McGuiness guided my two British clients (Ian Harford and Steve Wild) and their cameraman in pursuit of 8 big game animals on a 15 day hunt! Virtually no one would have thought it realistic to think that we could actually harvest 2 moose, 2 black bear, 2 brown bear and 2 caribou and most everyone realized getting 3-5 of those animals would be a major accomplishment in that time frame but ultimately we took everything but the 2nd moose which ultimately was a judgement call to not pursue it because of the additional work involved, and yes we were all beat after taking care of the first bull along with all the weather we had to deal with as well. The grand moment of this hunt came though on the 12th and last day of our actual hunting with a dilemma making the decision to pursue a double on two caribou bulls, or a brown bear on the opposite side of the creek. Ultimately the guys decided to try to take both bulls, but as soon as they started making their move the brown bear started down the slope and they had to change their minds and go after the bear at the last minute. The bear ended up less than 200 yards out when they took it and within 30 minutes they went on to take both bull caribou at 400 yards! 3 big game animals within 30 minutes is simply something that I'm not sure I will ever see again, but it was a phenomenal end to a fantastic hunt!

<![CDATA[Don't Miss Out on the Combos!!!]]>Mon, 13 Feb 2017 00:45:45 GMThttp://alaskahunts.net/alaska-hunts-blog/dont-miss-out-on-the-combosOur sheep hunts continue at 100% for those who stay the course and we continue to find some incredible rams in this area we now call our home base! We still have slots available for this year and last year we had one of our clients take this incredible 43" ram that fell just shy of the all time B&C score of 170 after the drying time!

Three incredible animals harvested by one client in one season, culminating in a 404" B&C caribou that was simply stunning!
I can't stress the potential for successful combos in this area enough! Having guided extensively in three of the five major mountain ranges of Alaska I can say unequivocally this is the greatest area I have been in for a host of different combination hunt offerings! Whether you want to pursue sheep/grizzly, moose/caribou or a number of other potential combinations including a 3 species 14 day offering we have the place for you!

Now is the time to get your hunt booked, or if you are interested in a single species hunt just let us know! Give me a shout at 907 982 2426 or simply e-mail info@alaskahunts.net for more info!

<![CDATA[What a Year it Was!]]>Wed, 28 Dec 2016 20:20:26 GMThttp://alaskahunts.net/alaska-hunts-blog/what-a-year-it-wasTo say the least it was a year of adventure. On a personal level, spiritual level and in regards to the hunting it was pretty phenomenal.

I was honored to have married the most beautiful woman in the world, Renee Santostefano in June of this year and we thank God that we were able to spend time together, both before season and during season at the main cabin in Alaska, and I simply thank God and my love for allowing me the opportunity to be a devoted and passionate husband until the end of my days here on this earth!

So many stories from this year when it comes to hunting that it will take a while to put them all into writing and get them posted in the article section but stay tuned. We had 4 out of 4 brown bear bear hunters score ont he Peninsula this spring with a couple bears going over 9' and a great hunter who booked with us for sheep in August and moose/caribou in September taking 3 out of 3 species pursued and two of these being Boone & Crockett entries. Haven't got the release yet due to his TV show and a magazine article to post the pics, but the hammer of a ram was 43" and the caribou bull scored in the mid 420's! More moose on the ground and some hard earned rams and one of the most memorable father/son hunts I have evder had the privilege of being on brought the season to a close, so check out the 2016 pics as I get them posted and keep an eye out for the B&C pics when I get the release to publish them!

Still room to get on board for this year, in particular still have room for the opening slots for sheep and the full rut slot for moose and late season brown bear so give us a shout! 907 982 2426!

<![CDATA[Expanding Horizons, Grace & Brown Bear, and more!]]>Wed, 13 May 2015 16:03:57 GMThttp://alaskahunts.net/alaska-hunts-blog/expanding-horizons-grace-brown-bear-and-moreRevelation Mountain Outfitters Base Camp
We have been at this for quite some time now, for me it is my 20th year, and things come and go, but the grace of God has always been the consistent element in my life, and in this business, and certainly we believe it has been grace poured out upon us with the recent developments for our outfit. As we contemplated and began working toward the goal of acquiring a permit to build a base camp cabin in the Alaska Range, we encountered an offer that was, by any stretch of the imagination, just too good for us to ignore. One of the longest licensed Master Guides in the state offered to let us take over 2 cabins and another camp that he and his father and uncle had run for years, beginning in the early 70's right in the middle of our main hunt area in the Western Alaska Range.

We consider it an honor to be able to take up operations in these historic locations, and of course it has been a tremendous blessing that has saved us a truckload of work and paperwork, and we can only say that we are extremely excited about the opportunities the cabins and tent frame camp will provide for us this season and in the years ahead. Facilitating our sheep operations has become so much more streamlined, and it appears that we may even be able to actually sheep hunt directly from one cabin, and certainly from the tent frame camp, and all locations offer great opportunities for our combo hunters, moose hunters, and grizzly hunters.

We are pretty much down to the wire here on hunt openings for this year, but we still have some possible slots left, and several openings for the October Peninsula brown bear hunts which will be greater than ever, but minus the cabins!
